PRACTICE

Betty accepts instructions in both civil and criminal matters, with an emphasis on criminal matters such as commercial fraud, bribery and corruption and other organized crimes. She has appeared in Magistrates’ Courts, the High Court, Court of Appeal and Court of Final Appeal either as led junior (by local and London silks) or as sole advocate.

She served pupillage with Mr Peter Duncan SC, Mr Derek Chan SC, Mr Kenny Lin, Mr Raymond Tsui and Mr Charles J Chan.

SELECTED CASES

• HKSAR v Chen Keen and others
appeared for a defendant in a retrial charged with conspiracy to defraud a HK listed company and the SEHK, involving the listed company’s very substantial acquisition of dairy farms in New Zealand (led by Ian Winter KC).

• HKSAR v Chen Keen (Costs) [2023] 26 HKCFAR 157
For a defendant seeking trial costs of an aborted trial under s.4 of Costs in Criminal Cases Ordinance (led by Ian Winter QC).

HKSAR v Tsang Yam Kuen Donald (曾蔭權) [2019] 22 HKCFAR 176, appeared for the ex-Chief Executive of the HKSAR in relation to allegations of corruption and misconduct in public office (led by Clare Montgomery QC and Derek Chan SC).

HKSAR v Chu Wai Man [2019], appeared for a defendant charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs (with Charles J Chan).

HKSAR v Tsui Kwok Cheung [2018] HKDC 400, criminal proceedings in relation to dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.

HKSAR v Ip Wing Lun [2016] 1 HKLRD 801, appeared for the appellant accused of conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy to offer advantages to an agent (led by Michael Blanchflower SC, with Charles J Chan).
